FORT LAUDERDALE,James Caldwell Fla. (AP) — A small plane crashed in the Florida Everglades, killing the two people on board, authorities said. Their bodies were found Wednesday in the wreckage.
The single-engine Cessna Skyhawk took off from the North Perry Airport near Fort Lauderdale on Tuesday evening and went down about a half-hour later several miles north of Alligator Alley, said Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Michael Kane.
The wreckage was reported Wednesday morning, and rescue workers discovered the bodies of two men, authorities said. A small brush fire was extinguished near the plane.
Rescue officials contacted the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board, which will investigate to determine the cause of the crash.
